Huntsville Genealogical Computing Society

The Huntsville Genealogical Computing Society is located in Huntsville, Alabama. The purpose of the Society is to provide, promote, and encourage education in and use of computers for genealogical purposes.  We are a non-profit organization, organized and operated for educational purposes.

Aside from normal genealogy interests, a distinction of our Society is that we emphasize the use of computer technology in genealogy.  Many of our own members did not have the benefit of having computer technology taught in school, so they tend to be intimidated about using computers.  Thus, many of our meetings focus on helping people get more out of their computers while they do their genealogy research.  Programs at our meetings have included basic genealogy, computer basics (IBM and Macintosh), the Internet, genealogy software, enhancing photos, publishing your tree on the web, and the latest in computer hardware (scanners, digital cameras, etc).

Our society has a mixture of newcomers and experts with computer and genealogy experience on both IBM and Macintosh computers.

If you are new to genealogy, or you are new to computers, or both, our Society would be of benefit to you.

If you can't decide from our website whether you would benefit from our society, come to one of our meetings!  Our meetings are open to the public and you are welcome to come as a visitor with no obligation to join.
