Information Exchange
The Society provides a positive environment for
members to exchange information regarding the use of computers and computer
software (IBM and Macintosh) in their genealogical research. You can learn from other members'
experiences, and may even find someone who is researching the same family as
you. We keep a list, available to all the HGCS members, of the family surnames
being researched by some members.
Education
The Society has ten meetings a year. Meeting topics include; how to
research family information on the internet, hometown records, funeral home
records, planning a family reunion, long distance research, planning a research
trip, military records, and orientation to the LDS Family History Center. The monthly Huntsville Genealogical
Computing Society meetings provide fun and camaraderie as well as opportunities for
computer education and research pertaining to family history.
Social
Events
The Society has two scheduled two social events each year. The
two social events include a Family Picnic in July and a Christmas Party in
December. The Society members look forward each year to these events and a
good time is had by all.
Newsletter
"The
KeyBoard Tree Trace" is a newsletter
published monthly and a copy is e-mailed to each member. The newsletter
includes meeting notices, meeting minutes and upcoming programs and events. It
also contains articles of general interest and HGCS members are encouraged to include
genealogical articles and information they come across during the year that
might benefit other members of the Society. "The
KeyBoard Tree Trace" newsletter is an excellent source of genealogical
data.
